Manchester city coach Pep Guardiola has revealed reason behind his first half substitution of Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias.

The status of Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias was updated by Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola on Sunday night.

At the midpoint of the match against Villa, Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias were both removed.

The Sky Blues welcomed Aston Villa to the Etihad in the hopes of cutting the distance between themselves and the table-topping Gunners to just three points after watching Premier League title rivals Arsenal lose another two points in a match against Brentford on Saturday.

In order to reach the final score of 3-1 in Manchester, goals from all of Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, and Riyad Mahrez in the first half made Ollie Watkins' goal at the hour mark nothing more than a consolation.

Pep Guardiola inevitably brought up the pair's health when talking to the media following the game.

Pep Guardiola went on to say that Dias' early departure was merely a preventative measure to make sure he did not receive a second yellow card.

After receiving "a kick," Haaland will be "reassessed" over the next few days.
