Joao Cancelo has finally revealed the reason he left Manchester City for Bayern Munich.
There have been several suggestion that the Portugal international had a fight with Pep Guardiola which led to his move away from the Etihad stadium.
For many years, Joao Cancelo was a pivotal member of Manchester City, contributing significantly to their recent domestic success.
So it was, to put it mildly, shocking when Cancelo transferred from Manchester City to Bayern Munich on loan in January.
City, who are in the middle of a title challenge, are now a weaker team as a result of the full-back's departure. As a result, many people believed that something mysterious had occurred to lead to the unexpected transfer.
Cancelo, however, has now spoken out about leaving Manchester City and dispelled rumors that he got into a physical altercation with Pep Guardiola:
“It’s a lie that I had a fight with [Pep] Guardiola, a complete lie. I didn’t feel important to the team in recent games. I spoke to the coach and he agreed. I, the coach and club decided I had to leave, that it was the best option for me.
“I like new opportunities and have nothing against Manchester City. I took the step to reach the level I wanted to. I became the player I am and I’m very grateful to Pep and the club. They gave everything to me and my family and I’ll never forget it.”
On Tuesday, Cancelo got the ball rolling for Bayern Munich against PSG in the Champions League round of 16.
Bayern Munich secured 1-0 win over PSG away at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night in the first leg of Champions League.
