Due to his well-publicized error in the draw between Arsenal and Brentford, video assistant referee Lee Mason has left the PGMOL officials' organization and will no longer work in the Premier League.

Mason's final match as a Premier League official occurred in the waning moments of the 2021/22 season. Mason had been a referee for the Premier League for 15 years and presided over 287 matches in the top division. The 51-year-old has, however, been twice removed from a round of Premier League matches after high-profile mistakes while serving only as a VAR this season.

The first occurred in September when he overturned a Newcastle goal against Crystal Palace.

After failing to draw the lines and identify Christian Norgaard's offside position as the Brentford player provided the assist for Ivan Toney's late equalizer at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, he received a similar punishment.

Dermot Gallagher, a former Premier League official, analyzes how VAR, Lee Mason missed Christian Norgaard in an offside position in the lead-up to Brentford's goal against Arsenal.

PGMOL later offered an apology for the error, which Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, deemed "not acceptable.". The error, according to him, cost Arsenal two points.

Manchester City moved closer to Arsenal at the top of the Premier League with the draw against Brentford, and Pep Guardiola's team then passed Arsenal with a win in their match on Wednesday night.
