Thomas Partey will need "another week" to recover before playing again for the first team of Arsenal, according to manager Mikel Arteta.
Arteta spoke prior to Saturday's Premier League match between Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Due to a muscular injury, Partey was unable to play in last Wednesday's top-of-the-table matchup between Arsenal and Manchester City.
Despite leading the Premier League since August, Arsenal dropped to second place in Partey's absence after suffering a 3-1 loss.
The Arsenal team that played Aston Villa at Villa Park did not have Partey on it either.
Arteta stated in a statement to BT Sport, “He’s not fit. He didn’t even train with us yesterday.
“He was not feeling good enough to do that, so he probably needs another week.”
Meanwhile the Gunners came twice from behind to record 4-2 win over Aston Villa at the Villa Park.
