The 27-year-old tennis star was not found guilty by a magistrate in Canberra, Australia. The magistrate said the common assault was done out of "stupidity" and "frustration," but it was not planned.
It was gathered that the offence was also dismissed by Magistrate Jane Campbell on the grounds that it was not as serious as a typical assault.
The tennis star whose named as Kyrgios had previously experienced severe depression, suicidal ideation, and insomnia, according to a psychologist who testified before the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Magistrates Court, but his mental health had improved.
During an argument in January 2021, the Wimbledon runner-up of 2022 had pushed his former girlfriend to the ground, Reportminds Blog understands.
Sam Borenstein, Kyrgios' psychologist, testified by phone and in a written report on February 3 that the tennis star had previously experienced major depressive episodes and had used alcohol and drugs to cope.
His mental health had caused him to act rashly and impulsively.
Mr. Borenstein added that the 27-year-old's mental health was improving despite the mild to moderate depression caused by his recent knee injury.
Kyrgios's legal team had previously tried to have the assault charge from two years ago dismissed on the grounds of mental health, but they were unsuccessful.
