Dejan Kulusevski, a forward for Tottenham, has admitted that "revenge" was a major factor in his early success at Tottenham following his January 2022 transfer from Juventus.
The Swedish player joined on an initial loan deal that will become permanent this summer as part of a double swoop on deadline day that also included Rodrigo Bentancur.
If Spurs manage to make the Champions League this season, Tottenham must be made permanent.
Dejan Kulusevski helped Tottenham beat their north London rivals Arsenal to a Champions League berth in the second half of the Premier League with five goals and eight assists.
Speaking to the Guardian, “Dejan Kulusevski said that his time at Juventus served as a significant source of inspiration for his success at Tottenham.
“I had a lot of revenge in my head,” the Tottenham forward explained. “A lot of anger. In the last months at Juventus, I didn’t play so much. I didn’t like where my football was going. All I wanted was to show people what I could do so I came here.”
Kulusevski and his team have struggled this season despite early promise due to injuries and Tottenham's poor record, notably against other teams in the so-called top six, where they have failed to pick up a victory and only one draw to show for their efforts.
“In all the big games this season, we haven’t been good enough,” Kulusevski says. “We were close a couple of weeks ago at City [leading 2-0 at half-time before losing 4-2]. These are the best games but we have to start winning them because it shows in the table. And if you do, you also get a lot of momentum, which is what we need. These are the most important months of the season. So if there’s a time to go on a push, it’s now.”
