Following the publication of a video showing Reece James and Thiago Silva hugging after the latter signed a contract, Chelsea supporters went into a social media frenzy.
After the seasoned defender signed a new deal with Chelsea, Reece James welcomed Thiago Silva with open arms. When his previous contract expired at the end of the season, the 38-year-old was scheduled to leave Stamford Bridge, but after continuing to perform well, he was given a raise.
Silva's one-year contract extension keeps him at Stamford Bridge through the summer of 2024. This season, he has made 19 Premier League appearances for the west Londoners, helping Graham Potter's team record six shutouts.
Since his arrival in 2020, the Brazil international has been crucial to Chelsea's success, helping the team to UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Champions League victories. In a video shot by the Blues' internal media team following the extension of Silva's contract, James can be seen expressing his gratitude for his captain. The Cobham alumnus cheered the Brazilian. He approached Silva and, grinning, James bowed before the two of them embraced.
