Ex English footballer, Gary Lineker to return to BBC as pundit

The BBC in UK announced that sportscaster Gary Lineker will return to the airwaves after the organization promised to evaluate its social media policies in order to quell a growing controversy about its objectivity.

In sympathy with Lineker, who had criticized the government's immigration policy, presenters, analysts, and commentators refused to work, forcing the company to halt most of its sports programming over the weekend.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak intervened and expressed his hope that the matter might be handled quickly after employees, opposition politicians, and pundits claimed that the politically unbiased BBC had caved in to pressure from the government in making the decision to suspend Lineker.

It also brought back attention to Richard Sharp, the corporation's chairman, who had previously avoided disclosing that just before taking the position, he had helped Boris Johnson, the former prime minister, get a loan.

When the controversy erupted last week, Sharp has not commented on it. The BBC said that it will also examine the use of social media by independent contractors like Lineker in fields other than journalism.

Lineker was put on administrative leave by the publicly financed BBC for violating its impartiality policies by drawing comparisons between Suella Braverman, the interior minister of Great Britain, and the language of Nazi Germany in the 1930s.
