When Barcelona gave the young Spanish midfielder the number 6 that had been worn by his hero, Xavi Hernandez, the player was overcome.
But, according to a rumor, Gavi won't be permitted to wear the jersey again at least until the conclusion of the season.
Gavi will no longer wear the No. 6 jersey and will instead revert to a youth contract after Barcelona's legal attempt to register him was denied.
Pablo Gavi is apparently no longer a member of Barcelona's first squad as a result of the court's denial of their appeal.
When the midfielder signed a new deal with the club, La Liga originally refused to grant La Blaugrana permission to use the 18-year-old in its first squad.
According to ESPN, the Catalans filed a lawsuit when the Spanish league board refused to approve the transfer because Barcelona had spent more than allowed.
After that, the court instructed La Liga to approve Gavi's registration since refusing to do so "would suggest the player's free agency and so create substantial, irreparable harm to Barca," as his prior contracts were slated to expire this summer.
The Catalan giants had appealed the decision last Wednesday, but the 10th Commercial Court of Barcelona has already dismissed their appeal, thus Gavi will no longer be considered a part of the first team.
The 18-year-old can only be registered if Barcelona is able to lower its payroll costs.
The Athletic claims that La Liga would reinstate Gavi's position as a member of the Barcelona academy, reverting the release clause that allowed him to go this summer for free.
