Pep Guardiola has said that if he leads Manchester City to their first Champions League championship would define his tenure as manager.
The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach has nine major championships to his credit at Manchester City, but he hasn't yet won the European trophy.
Guardiola has led City to four Premier League crowns, one FA Cup, and four League Cup victories, but the English club's highest result in the competition was runners-up in 2021. As manager of Barcelona, he won the trophy twice.
Guardiola responded in the affirmative when questioned by reporters whether winning the title with City would define his achievement in the eyes of the general public. While I don't necessarily agree, we will be evaluated for that competition.
He said:"Yes. That doesn't mean I agree with that but, absolutely, we'll be judged for that competition.
"My first Champions League game here (in 2016), they asked, 'Are you here to win the Champions League?' If I was manager for Real Madrid I could understand, but I accept it. As much as we go through, it's not going to change that."
After a 1-1 draw in the first game, Manchester City will host RB Leipzig in the second leg of their round-of-16 matchup on Tuesday.
City are still in search of their first ever UEFA Champions League trophy. If you recall that Guardiola best came in 2021 against Chelsea in the final.
Although, the Citizens lost the game 1-0 to Thomas Tuchel side.
