La Albiceleste won their third championship in December after defeating France in Qatar on penalties. Messi's Argentina won the penalty shootout in a tense final that finished 3-3 after extra time.
Yet on Thursday night, Lionel Scaloni's team played again as they welcomed Panama to Buenos Aires. The crowd was very loud before the game as they celebrated their heroes on an emotional night in South America.
When Argentina's supporters cheered their squad onto the field for the first time since that historic victory against France, Messi seemed to be in tears.
In front of more than 80,000 joyful supporters, Argentina defeated Panama 2-0 at Estadio Monumental due to goals from Thiago Almada and Lionel Messi. The players, coaching staff, and families made the decision to remain on the field after the game to celebrate with the fans.
Yet, one of the songs they sang had a harsh statement towards France. Messi seemed to join the Argentina team in a video that has now gone popular on social media. It said: "A minute of silence for... France, they are dead," as it was interpreted.
After the match, Kylian Mbappe got into a fight with several of the Argentina players, notably Emi Martinez, who seemed to make fun of Mbappe by holding up a baby doll with his face on.
When he made a vulgar gesture after collecting the Golden Glove, the Aston Villa goalkeeper made headlines as well. He claimed to repent the February event, but was caught doing it again, except this time with the World Cup trophy.
This time, Martinez was joined by a few of his Argentina-based coworkers, and his wife also took part in the festivities. Despite my wife having asked me three days before, "My wife told me: 'Please, you're not going to do that thing again' I told her, no love, stay calm."
Each player received a miniature World Cup trophy, and they made the most of it by walking around the stadium to express their gratitude to fans in every section for their support. Players from Panama also seemed to join in and offer their congratulations to the Argentine team.
