Erling Haaland's five goals helped Manchester City defeat RB Leipzig 7-0 (8-1 agg) to advance to the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarterfinals for the sixth consecutive year.

Following a commanding first period, City earned a goal in the 22nd minute when Haaland calmly scored from the penalty spot after Benjamin Henrichs was called for a handball in the area. Only two minutes later, Kevin De Bruyne's thundering long-range attempt crashed against the bar and right to Haaland, who joyously nodded home to tighten the hosts' hold on the match, making Leipzig's already tough job much more challenging.

As halftime drew near, City tried to score another goal to end the game. After two outstanding stops to stop Erling Haaland and lkay Gündoan, the busy Janis Blaswich believed he'd done enough to stop additional damage to the scoreboard, but City's Norwegian star bundled in a third with the last kick of the half to secure his trifecta and give the hosts an insurmountable lead.
Nobody would have criticized Pep Guardiola's team for letting up when the Cityzens had a three-goal advantage. Due to the much-publicized "cheat code" in attack, it isn't in City's playbook, and the hosts came out strong in the second half, scoring three more goals before the hour mark. Gündoan completed the first of them, a beautiful team play, with a determined attempt into the far corner.

Soon after, Haaland scored his fourth and fifth goals of the night with a pair of his signature predatory shots inside the box, not to be outdone by anybody. Pep Guardiola quickly replaced Haaland as City looked to coast through the final 20 minutes against a Leipzig team that had been soundly defeated by the English champions of the day for the second time in three UCL campaigns, with an eye toward his team's FA Cup quarterfinal matchup with Burnley at the weekend.

Even without Haaland up front, City wasn't over yet. With virtually the last kick, they inflicted more pain on their stunned opponents. As the clock reached 90 minutes, the magnificent de Bruyne placed the cherry on top with a spectacular long-range goal, extending City's unbroken home winning record against German opponents in UEFA competition to 10 games.
