With a 3-1 victory against Fulham at Old Trafford and a trip to the FA Cup semifinals, Manchester United survived five minutes of utter insanity from Fulham.
Five minutes into the second half, Aleksandr Mitrovic gave Fulham the lead, and they deserved it. But, with around 20 minutes remaining, manager Marco Silva, Willian, and Mitrovic were all dismissed from the game.
After a Fulham corner converted into a United attack, Jadon Sancho was set up by substitute Antony, who had sped down the right wing. Bernd Leno was danced around, but Willian's hand blocked his effort at the goal line.
Chris Kavanagh tried to gesture for a corner, but VAR Neil Swarbrick sent him to the monitor instead, halting just in time for him to dismiss Silva for disobedience.
Willian was finally handed a red card and a penalty, but between Mitrovic's yelling at Kavanagh and demands for his own early shower, Fulham totally lost their cool.
Bruno Fernandes' penalty-kick goal from the spot gave United the lead two minutes after Marcel Sabitzer's first United goal. Marcel Sabitzer provided the assist on Luke Shaw's low cross.
Fernandes scored United's third goal in stoppage time, beating Fulham's nine-man defense.
Fulham will pay the price for a day that will definitely impede their quest to qualify for Europe via the Premier League and be followed by sanctions as United, the 12-time Cup winners, go on to face Brighton at Wembley.
