Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a Labour Party (LP) candidate for governor in Lagos, claims that unless the perpetrators of the nation's election violence are brought to court, Nigerians won't be able to move beyond the violence and discrimination.

In the Lagos state governor's race, Gbadebo was defeated by Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid extensive allegations of electoral violence, voting suppression, and racial prejudice.

On Tuesday, Bola Tinubu, the president-elect of Nigeria, denounced the election violence and promised that his administration will begin the healing process by engaging its adversaries.

Nevertheless, Rhodes-Vivour said that the election violence needed to be addressed before the healing process could begin when addressing at a news conference on March 22 in Lagos.

He urged on citizens of Lagos to be loud against a “new sort of democracy” that is being forced on them.

“Yesterday, Bola Tinubu called for healing but healing cannot happen without justice. There was an attempt to make this seems like the violence was a Yoruba versus Igbo. But it was widespread across the state. Everybody was affected and disenfranchised,” the LP candidate said.

“And we also saw a lot of violence and intimidation but it was nothing compared to the militia attack unleashed on Lagos on Saturday.

In addition, Rhodes-Vivour announced the opening of a website where anybody harmed by election violence may submit proof and have his team pay their medical expenditures.

“What we are complaining about is not numbers, it is the new type of democracy these people are trying to impose. The topic of conversation is that well-meaning Lagosians should stand up and show that they are disdained.
