First home league defeat for Les Parisiens since April 2021, Stade Rennais stunned Ligue 1 league leaders Paris Saint-Germain with a 2-0 win.

Even if playing the league leaders at Parc des Princes is a daunting task, Adrien Truffert's game-ending injury made things considerably more difficult for Rennes.

Nevertheless, Karl Toko Ekambi of Les Rouge et Noirs raised the stakes early on. He missed a shot after El Chadaille Bitshiabu's bad pass, and the 17-year-old subsequently had his shot stopped when Juan Bernat was turned inside out.

When PSG started to put balls in behind for their superstar, Kylian Mbappé quickly rose to the fore. But, he was called offside when he struck the goal, pulled a shot wide, and was twice stopped by Steve Mandanda.

Just before the interval, Benjamin Bourigeaud put Toko Ekambi in a similar situation, and the Cameroonian was unable to be stopped. He evaded Bernat and then blasted a shot across Gianluigi Donnarumma for his first Ligue 1 goal since September and Rennes' first in 295 minutes of play.
After three minutes of the game's resumption, things went from bad to worse for PSG and Bernat as Lesley Ugochukwu rushed forward and capitalized on the Spaniard's clumsy ball to set up Arnaud Kalimuendo's opportunity to score against his old team. In an attempt to get back into the game, Christophe Gaultier went to Renato Sanches and Hugo Ekitiké, and the former almost connected with the latter with a fizzed cross into the box. Toko Ekambi once again demonstrated his own danger with a shot that drifted agonizingly wide as PSG continued in search of a goal.

Rennes sealed their excellent upset of the defending champions to stop a two-game losing streak and retake fifth position in the Ligue 1 standings. Mandanda made two further outstanding saves to thwart Messi and Marco Verratti. PSG's four-game league winning run comes to an end, giving Olympique de Marseille the chance to cut the advantage held by Les Parisiens at the top to seven points.
