In their La Liga match against Girona on Saturday, Rayo Vallecano made an effort to replicate the infamous "penalty pass," but they failed.
Isi Palazon and Oscar Trejo scored to put their team up 2-1, but when Vallecano was given a penalty shot, the two goal scorers had something peculiar prepared.
Trejo really failed on his first penalty try despite making it seem easy from 12 yards out. But the referee saw some infringement from the opponents and threw a lifeline to the Argentina attacker.
The 34-year-old then made the decision to change things up by involving colleague Palazon.
Trejo used the top of his foot to transfer the ball to his buddy, but Palazon utterly botched the attempt, leaving the two in disarray.
To make matters worse, Viktor Tsyhankov's equalizer in the 52nd minute—his second of the match—allowed Girona to salvage a point.
If you remember, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez executed the move flawlessly during their 6-1 victory against Celta Vigo.
