Patrice Evra said on Rio Ferdinand's YouTube channel that Granit Xhaka deserves a lot of credit for his turnaround this season at Arsenal.
This season, the Gunners are putting on impressive performances across the board. With Mikel Arteta's team in a strong position to win the Premier League, selecting a player of the season will be extremely challenging.
Xhaka is one player who will be overlooked in comparison to some of his teammates. The Swiss player has been receiving praise for his performances this season, which is justifiable.
However, he has been exceptional for the majority of the past 18 months. Additionally, he has elevated his game this season.
He has thrived in the more complex role that Thomas Partey has taken on this season, which has made him much more trustworthy.
“I want to have a shout-out to Xhaka because I remember he used to be booed at the stadium. And even, I told that story when I watching Henry call me and say: ‘Patrice, we are going to watch the game’. I say: ‘I can’t watch Arsenal’. I remember he turned on the TV, and he sees Xhaka with the armband, he turned off the TV,” he told Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel.
“You need to give credit to those players, because that’s when they showed they’ve got character. I know we’re talking a lot about Partey, but I want to say a big, big [shout-out] to Xhaka.”
Evra has previously related the incident in which Thierry Henry turned off the television when he saw Xhaka become the captain of Arsenal. After that, he made sure to commend the midfielder for his performance this season.
Xhaka has quieted a large number of his skeptics this season. During his first few years at the Emirates, he deserved a lot of the criticism he received from sincere fans and pundits.
