William Saliba, an Arsenal defender, has a back injury that is "worse than originally anticipated" and will definitely keep him out of Sunday's Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
The 21-year-old has been an essential part of his side's unlikely championship push since Mikel Arteta eventually gave him his first team shot at the start of the season.
Saliba was forced to depart Sporting Lisbon's Europa League defeat after only 21 minutes, despite Mikel Arteta's assertion that his center-half had just suffered a slight setback.
The ex-Saint-Etienne defender, though, was absent from practice on Saturday. It's been gathered that he will be sidelined for a few weeks.
If it happened, Saliba would have to leave the French squad before the next Euro 2024 qualifiers against Holland and Ireland.
The Gunners take on Palace at the Emirates stadium on Sunday afternoon in their Premier League clash.
