Despite losing 4-1 to Manchester City, Arsenal was given formal confirmation on Wednesday night that they had qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
This is due to the fact that it is technically impossible for the Gunners to finish lower than fourth place in the Premier League this year after Brighton & Hove Albion's 3-1 loss against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
As a result, Mikel Arteta's squad is assured a position in the Champions League group stage for the next season.
Since the 2016–17 season, when they finished first in Group A, ahead of Paris Saint–Germain, and fell to Bayern Munich in the round of 16, Arsenal has not participated in the Champions League.
Man City is now certain of a spot in the UCL for the next season.
Liverpool, Tottenham, Brighton, and even Aston Villa still have a remote chance of making it, but Newcastle and Manchester United are heavy favorites to capture the last two positions.
