A boat carrying passengers from Yenagoa to Okpoama in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State sank on Thursday, April 6, 2023, leaving a large number of persons missing.
The event took place along the Okoroma River in the state's Nembe local government region.
Before sinking in the middle of the river, it was said that the wooden boat was carrying both people and cargo.
Several of the parents who were aboard the tragic boat have reportedly been looking for their lost children, according to Daily Trust.
While the rescue effort was still going on when the report was being filled up, the number of casualties could not yet be determined.
A rescue crew has already been sent to the area, according to Mr. Ipigansi Ogoniba, the chairman of the maritime union workers in Bayelsa State, who verified the situation to the magazine.
