Chelsea set to appoint Frank Lampard as new caretaker coach

Frank Lampard is set to return to Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis after being 'offered' the Chelsea manager's position.

In an effort to retain Lampard until the conclusion of the current campaign as they search for Graham Potter's long-term successor, the club started negotiations with him on Tuesday. Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann are the front-runners.

After his tarnished exit at Everton earlier this year, Lampard, who held the position for a season and a half until being replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January 2021, is allegedly willing to take the job.

Ashley Cole and Joe Edwards are set to follow Lampard through the door and join his backroom staff, much as they did during his first managerial tenure, according to The Telegraph.

On Saturday, when Chelsea travels to Wolves, the 44-year-old is probably going to be in charge. He'll have plenty of time to prepare for the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal match against Real Madrid on April 12 in this manner.
