Enzo Fernandez, a midfielder for Chelsea, has been dubbed a "leader" by interim manager Frank Lampard ahead of his team's Champions League quarterfinal first-leg matchup with Real Madrid on Wednesday night at Santiago Bernabeu.

As they are ready to play the Spanish team at the Santiago Bernabéu later tonight, the Blues are in Spain.

At his pre-game news conference on Tuesday, Lampard discussed the upcoming matchup between Chelsea and Real Madrid in Spain.

Lampard said: "For sure, Chelsea brought in some younger players over the course of this season, we had to give them a chance at developing into the leaders we want them to be.

“Enzo is becoming a leader, but he’s 22 years of age. I think it is quite difficult for us to talk about that, he will have to find his way."

The former England midfielder believes that Fernandez is emerging as a leader inside the Chelsea group and will need to make his way within the Blues team.

As you remember, Chelsea acquired the young Argentine player from Benfica in January for a then-record transfer price.

When the Albiceleste won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Enzo Fernandez was crucial.

Lampard, who is temporarily in command of the club, will be aiming to make the team better at least till the conclusion of the season.

“Games like tomorrow [Wednesday] are a great chance to perform and show the personality that makes you a proper leader,” Lampard added.
