Manchester United has announced that Alejandro Garnacho has extended his contract by five years.
Since leading United to victory in the FA Youth Cup last season, the team's rising star has been in talks about a new contract.
Having previously been forced to withdraw from the senior international matches against Panama and Curacao owing to injury, Garnacho was claimed to be keen to participate in the junior tournament, which begins on May 20 and is being hosted by Argentina.
Before sustaining ankle ligament injury against Southampton last month, Garnacho was having a breakout season, notching five goals and six assists in 31 games. Before the news was released on Friday, he returned to training.
Although it would mean missing the Premier League matches against Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham as well as the FA Cup Final on June 3, it is said that the young winger has personally pleaded with Ten Hag to release him.
Javier Mascherano, the coach of the Argentina youth squad, has also had meetings with United representatives in an effort to have Garnacho released.
After Thursday night's draw between United and Tottenham, Ten Hag was adamant about the situation when he was questioned about it. No, we don't release him, the manager of United said.
Ten Hag is anticipating having Garnacho back in the lineup for the final stretch after the injury derailed the rookie's breakout year.
