Sadio Mane, a star for Bayern Munich, reportedly assaulted teammate Leroy Sane on Tuesday night while suffering the loss of a close family member.
The German champions have provisionally banned the Senegalese winger after Sane and he started a fight after their 3-0 loss to Manchester City.
As they walked off the field at the Etihad Stadium, Sane and Mane were spotted arguing, and the argument escalated as they descended the tunnel.
Mane attacked the German as the altercation carried into the changing room, leaving him with a bleeding lip, and then the two were hauled apart.
Mane has been suspended by the German club due to the disturbing incidents, but a recent report provides an explanation for his hasty actions on Tuesday night.
According to the Mirror, Mane assaulted Leroy Sane while suffering the loss of his aunt while playing at Bayern Munich.
The publication reports that Bayern's executives were fully aware of Mane's circumstances, who was distraught after the death of his aunt last weekend.
The winger has reportedly always had a great bond with his family and was reportedly shocked to learn of his aunt's passing, which led to his assault on Sane.
Following his conduct, Bayern announced that the winger would be suspended for their Saturday Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim and that he would also pay an undisclosed fine.
Sane and Mane attended a meeting with the club's executives on Thursday morning, according to Bild.
The publication has also previously estimated the forward's yearly wage to be in the neighborhood of £17 million, which might prove to be an expensive choice should Bayern decide to cancel his contract.
The brawl will be a significant and immediate test for manager Thomas Tuchel as Bayern looks to recover from their loss to the English team.
On Saturday, Bayern will play host to Hoffenheim. With their chances of winning the Champions League trophy this year hanging in the balance, they must win the game to maintain their advantage over the competition. Bayern now leads the Bundesliga by only two points.
