Jarrod Bowen made a young fan's wish come true by wearing similar ear protectors as he came out for West Ham's match against Liverpool.

As the players left the London Stadium for Wednesday night's Premier League game, the winger and the mascot standing next to him both had noise-cancelling headphones on.

Danny Ings, a former Aston Villa striker who is now a West Ham player, did something similar earlier this season as a show of support for Riley Regan, the team's mascot who has autism and has a hard time with loud sounds.

The young Villa supporter was concerned that others would make fun of him for wearing headphones, so Ings also donned a set so that he wasn't alone himself.

It happened at a time when the issue of how sports teams handle their mascots is in the public eye after criticism of Arsenal players for neglecting a little girl when they signed her jersey.

Before kickoff, Bowen led the little Hammers supporter through the customary blowing of bubbles in the tunnel and onto the field.

However, West Ham's night was not to be as they fell to Liverpool 2-1. Lucas Paqueta gave them the lead after 12 minutes, but Cody Gakpo drew them even only a few minutes later.

Joel Matip gave Liverpool the lead on 67 minutes after Bowen had an early second-half goal ruled out for offside.
