The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained and arrested former electricity minister Sale Mamman in connection with an alleged N22 billion fraud.
The Cable reports that Mamman, who served as a minister for President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2021, was imprisoned at the anti-graft agency's Abuja headquarters after being apprehended early on Wednesday.
A conspiracy to siphon N22 billion and divide it among themselves is said to have taken place between the ex-Minister and ministry employees in charge of the accounting for the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects.
According to reports, millions of dollars and naira have purportedly been seized, and the investigations found that several assets in Nigeria and abroad are related to the accused.
On September 1, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari withdrew Mamman as part of what was referred to be a cabinet reorganization.
