Luke Shaw believed Manchester United's lackluster play contributed to their 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Thursday, but he did 'own up' to giving away a late penalty that lost his team a point.
In the 99th minute, Alexis Mac Allister converted a penalty kick after VAR identified a clear handball by Shaw in the area.
The most recent goal ever scored against the Red Devils was a beautiful penalty shot over his body into the side netting.
As a consequence, United has only earned one point from its eight games against the top nine teams in the Premier League.
Shaw told Sky Sports that despite his late blunder, he believed his team had lost the game in other ways, 'The problem is we don't score. We had three or four big chances in the first half we should be scoring. That is happening a lot of times this season.
'It comes down to my mistake at the end but with the chances we had we should be scoring. The game is completely different if we score with the chances we make.'
The English international then takes the blame for the defeat, admitting his error after he raised his arm up when defending the corner kick.
Shaw said that it was a mistake that cost his team the three points.
He said:'I own up to it, take it on the chin, it cost us the game but it is tough,' he added. 'I can't even explain why my hand is up there It's a silly mistake that cost us a point. It is totally disappointing and I lost us a point at the end.'
