During her brief appearance on the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala on May 1, singer and actress Janelle Monáe made quite the fashion statement.
At the 2023 Met Gala, she put on a display by removing her Thom Browne outfit, which featured a black-and-white patchwork jacket layered over a huge hoop skirt.
Janelle, 37, was wearing just a black bra top and bottoms with pearl fringe and a pannier petticoat put over the underwear. She slowly started pulling off bits of clothes until there was almost nothing left.
The non-binary singer, who uses the pronouns she/her and they/them, completed the makeover with a cat-shaped handbag.
The "Glass Onion" actor, however, also has a unique link to this year's "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" theme since Lagerfeld was her date when she made her Met debut in 2011.
The Met Gala honors the Costume Institute's yearly exhibitions while also raising money for the New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. The topic for this year is "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," which honors the late designer's life and body of work. Dua Lipa, Roger Federer, Michaela Coel, Penelope Cruz, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour are notable co-chairs of the 2023 occasion.
Lagerfeld, who is best known for his work as the creative director of Chanel among other critically acclaimed collaborations, was also recognized for his constantly changing signature look, which frequently featured suits with Edwardian and gothic influences and was accessorized with white collars, gloves, a ponytail, and other eye-catching items.
