Karim Benzema, the star player for Real Madrid, displayed a horrifying gash on his foot that needed stitches after he was hurt during Wednesday's 2-1 victory against Rayo Vallecano.
The Frenchman, who earlier this season won the Ballon d'Or trophy after being chosen as the world's greatest player in 2022, uploaded a video of the injured region being stitched up after the match, in which Real players wore No. 20 jerseys before the game.
Following the Bernabeu match, a painful-looking cut can be seen between the third and fourth toes of the striker's right foot.
The injury is said to have occurred during a confrontation early in the game with just 10 minutes remaining when a Vallecano player stomped on his foot.
Benzema was repeatedly observed hobbling and whining during the game, but he declined the chance to be replaced instead of gritting his teeth and playing.
Benzema scored in the 31st minute of the game, proving that not even an injury could stop the prolific Frenchman from finding the back of the goal.
Federico Valverde and Benzema executed a deft one-two before Benzema arced in behind the Vallecano defense to collect the ball.
After drawing out Stole Dimitrievski, he maneuvered the ball around the onrushing North Macedonian and blasted into the open goal to give the team a 1-0 lead.
After that, Rodrygo saved all three points for the hosts in the 89th minute with a curling attempt into the bottom right corner from beyond the penalty area after Raul de Tomas seemed to score a late equalizer on 84 minutes.
It is unknown whether Benzema will continue to play for the team after sustaining the possibly life-altering injury.
