In his first season at Manchester City, Erling Haaland became the first player in history to win both the Premier League Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.

Norwegian broke the 29-year record for the most goals in a Premier League season by scoring 36 league goals in only 35 games.

In addition to helping City win the Premier League for a third straight year and advance to the FA Cup and Champions League finals in June, he has also provided eight assists.

With 44 total goals assisted, Haaland shares the record with former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, who did it in the 2002–03 season.

The short list also included the Arsenal teammates Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, Harry Kane of Tottenham, and Kieran Trippier of Newcastle.

With more than 80% of the voting, Haaland has already won the 2023 Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award.
Additionally, he is a candidate for the PFA Player of the Season honor.

Phil Foden has won the Premier League Young Player of the Season each of the last two seasons since it was first given out in 2019–20.

Arsenal's trio of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard, Brighton's Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, and Newcastle United's Sven Botman and Alexander Isak were the other candidates on this year's shortlist.
