After Barcelona canceled the contract of the defender, Lionel Messi wrote a heartfelt ode to his fellow Barcelona star Jordi Alba.
The La Liga champions and Barcelona confirmed their mutual decision to end Alba's contract on Wednesday.
At Camp Nou on Sunday, Alba will bid the club's supporters farewell before departing Barcelona at the conclusion of the current campaign.
Alba recognized his impending departure from Barcelona in a moving video posted to his social media accounts, thanking the Catalan team and its supporters.
Alba has been Messi's friend for a long time, both on and off the field, and Messi responded by saying that Alba was more to him than just a teammate.
Lionel Messi sent a message on Instagram saying, “You were more than a teammate, a true accomplice on the court… And how nice it is also to be able to enjoy how well we get along personally.
“You know that I always wish you the best and also your family, hopefully, your new stage will continue to bring you many successes and joys. Thanks for everything, Jordi.”
