A social media celebrity who wanted to inspire her fans by losing more than half her body weight allegedly passed away in China while undergoing a rigorous weight-loss boot camp.

The death of the 21-year-old influencer, known online as Cuihua, has rekindled worries about the pressures women face to meet social media's standards for beauty while also prompting the Chinese official media to warn residents about the safety dangers associated with weight-loss camps.

Chinese media reported her death on June 10. Her death occurs just a few weeks after a young guy in the nation passed away after live-streaming himself consuming a number of powerful alcohol bottles.

In an effort to inspire her tens of thousands of fans on Douyin, China's equivalent of TikTok, Cuihua has been sharing her weight-loss journey there.

She disclosed that she was striving to drop 100 kilograms of weight and that she weighed 156 kilograms (344 pounds) in a recent series of films in which she is engaged in intense training routines.

Her jogging and weightlifting were shown in videos released on the account, which received a lot of shares on Chinese social media. Following her passing, her videos were also shown in several state media channels.

According to China National Radio, Cuihua, also known by her family name of Zhou, had signed up for a number of weight-loss programs in different locations in an effort to meet her goal and had shed more than 27 kilograms (60 pounds) in the two months before her death.

Just two days before to her death, according to CNR, Cuihua had attended her last camp in the province of Shaanxi.

They said that despite the fact that the camp advocated "nutritious meals, rest, and healthy exercise," she had decided to restrict her nutrition in addition to engaging in rigorous exercise.

Since then, photographs and videos of Cuihua training have been erased from the account.

The influencer's family got "compensation" from the Shaanxi weight reduction camp, according to state media reports, although the amount was not specified.

According to local police, they are looking into the death and if the weight reduction camp used excessive or inappropriate training methods.

Experts in eating disorders and sports nutrition caution that, when driven by a poor body image and carried to extremes, even apparently beneficial actions like increased exercise and dieting may be hazardous.

In extreme circumstances, issues may transcend mental health and result in life-threatening physical issues that impact the heart, brain, liver, kidneys, and other organs.

According to a recent national study in China, the Lancet reports that more than half of Chinese individuals are already either overweight or obese, and obesity rates are predicted to rise.
