Quincy Promes, a former Netherlands striker, was given an 18-month prison term for stabbing his cousin in the knee.
The incident happened at a family gathering in July 2020, and a Dutch judge found the Spartak Moscow striker guilty of assault.
According to his attorney, he will appeal, reports Dutch network RTL.
Promes, who has additionally appeared for Sevilla and Ajax, is a resident of Russia and was unable to appear in court.
Last month, Dutch authorities also filed charges against the 31-year-old for his suspected role in cocaine trafficking.
