Two Wives of Speaker Abbas fight for attention at the swearing-in ceremony

Tuesday's swearing-in ceremony in the house of representatives saw some minor drama as the spouses of Tajudeen Abbas, the new speaker, pushed one another for attention.

The event happened after Abbas's resounding victory as speaker.

He won the election by defeating Sani Jaji and Idris Wase.

Wase and Jaji each received three votes, while Abbas received 353 votes overall.

When Abbas was called up to the platform to swear the oath of loyalty, everything appeared to be going according to plan.

The oaths were read aloud for the new speaker to answer to by Kamoru Ogunlana, the deputy clerk of the house.

Abbas' wife and Alhassan Doguwa, a politician for the federal seat of Doguwa/Tudun Wada, stood to his left.

A second wife of Abbas, who rushed onto the platform and pushed the other wife away, however, disturbed the regular occasion.

Abbas looked to have been stunned by the event since he interrupted his swearing-in to argue with the wife who had suddenly entered the platform.

No one of the women backed down after their discussions, and the ceremonies resumed with both of which them on the dais.
