Oriol Romeu, a former Southampton midfielder, has signed a three-year deal with Barcelona.
Romeu, 31 years old is a product of Barcelona's renowned La Masia program, although in 2010–11, he only made two appearances for the senior team.

Romeu's purchase price has not been made public by Barcelona, although his contract does have a 400 million euro buy-out provision.

He spent the previous year with Girona, making 33 La Liga appearances as the Catalan team ended in tenth place.

It was reported that Romeu made his first-team debut under Pep Guardiola in 2010–2011 after playing for Barcelona's minor squads.
In 2011, Chelsea acquires Romeu.

Romeu joined Chelsea in the summer of 2011 for £4.35 million, but he had trouble making an impression. After loan stints with Valencia and Stuttgart, he eventually moved permanently to Southampton in 2015 for £5 million.

Following 256 appearances and leaving the south coast, the midfielder signed a three-year deal with Girona in September 2022.

Following the signings of Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez, who were both free agents, Romeu is Barcelona's third acquisition of the summer.
