The deadline for naming a new captain of Chelsea has been set by Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino is keeping his selection a secret despite the large number of viable possibilities. The Argentine tactician indicated that he plans to assess players' responses both on and off the field before naming the new captain during a press conference before to a friendly match versus Brighton & Hove Albion during the Premier League Summer Series in the United States.
The Argentine manager has given himself till the team's Premier League debut against Liverpool to make a choice.
In the Florida Cup final, Chelsea defeated Wrexham 5-0 under the leadership of Trevoh Chalobah. However, it seems doubtful that Chalobah would be given a regular starting position in Pochettino's team given the presence of several seasoned defenders.
While Thiago Silva, who is 38 years old and has a plethora of expertise, marks the opposite end of the scale. Raheem Sterling, 28, and Reece James, 23, are also still good choices, albeit they are older players.
The decision on the type of Chelsea's new skipper is crucial since that person will be in charge of leading the squad both on and off the pitch during the season.
