How Xabi Alonso convinced me to leave Arsenal for Bayern Leverkusen - Granit Xhaka

Granit Xhaka has finally revealed why he left Arsenal this summer.
The 31-year-old signed a five-year contract with Bayern Leverkusen. 

Earlier in May, Xhaka agreed personal conditions to join Xabi Alonso's Bundesliga team. 

While Xhaka's transfer was rumored to cost over 21 million pounds, and he will wear shirt number 34. 

Xhaka completed seven seasons with Arsenal and stated that he was looking for a fresh challenge. 

Following the acquisition of Declan Rice from West Ham for 105 million pounds, Mikel Arteta was free to let Xhaka leave the Emirates Stadium. 

According to the Switzerland International, he departed London because his wife was unhappy there. 

Granit Xhaka on why he left Arsenal: “There was speculation everywhere that my wife was no longer happy in England. That is not at all true. The fact is that as a person I am always interested in new challenges. After seven years, the time has come for something completely new.”

Meanwhile, Xhaka, a Switzerland International, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing effort at Leverkusen.

Granit Xhaka is no stranger to the Bundesliga, having previously played for Borussia Monchengladbach before joining Arsenal. 

The 31-year-old stated that Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso persuaded him because he was offered a one-year contract. 

He added, “The league is not new, but the club is. During the talks with [sporting director] Simon Rolfes & Xabi Alonso, I felt that the long-term project at Leverkusen was worthwhile & that it was 100 per cent in line with me.”
