Lionel Messi has been appointed captain of Inter Miami

Leo Messi will lead Inter Miami, according to coach Tata Martino.

Lionel Messi will don the captain's hat and may make his debut against Atlanta United on Tuesday. 

The weekend League Cup match between Inter Miami and Cruz Azul was the 36-year-old footballer's Inter Miami debut.

Inter Miami won 2-1 thanks to a goal from substitute Lionel Messi. 

Messi curled a free kick in the last seconds to give Inter Miami the win, sending the stadium crowd into a frenzy.
