In Morocco's 1-0 victory against South Korea, Nouhaila Benzina made history by being the first player to wear a hijab during a FIFA World Cup.
At the current Women's World Cup in Australia, defender Nouhaila Benzina of Morocco is the first football player to wear a hijab.

When her team stunned South Korea with a 1-0 victory on Sunday, Benzina, 25, made her debut appearance in the competition while donning the Islamic hijab.

Recall that in 2014, FIFA, the world's governing body of football, permitted fans to wear head coverings for religious reasons while watching games.

As a result, Muslim female athletes who don a hijab daily will be able to do so even while playing.
Four Facts About Nouhaila Benzina..

1. On May 11, 1998, Benzina was born in Kenitra, Morocco.

2. She plays defense for ASFAR and the Moroccan national women's team.

3. Benzina has received both under-20 and senior level caps for Morocco.

4. She made her maiden World Cup appearance at the current 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia, which also happened to be the first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup competition for Morocco.
