"My son is focused on becoming Chelsea captain" - Reece James father says

Nigel James, Reece James' father, has said that his son is determined to become Chelsea's captain.

After Cesar Azpilicueta's departure, the 24-year-old is among the favorites to be named Blues captain for the upcoming season. 

If you recall, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta departed the club and joined as a free agent with Atletico Madrid. 

Chelsea agreed to cancel the contract of the Spanish defender, who would rather move to Atletico Madrid than Inter Milan. 

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino is yet to name his new squad captain, but the English international father has spoken about his son's goal. 

James, a Chelsea academy product, is one of the favorites, along with Thiago Silva, the team's oldest player.

Reece James’ father Nigel said: “His ambition is to wear Chelsea armband and captain the side”. 

Nigel, Reece James' father, also stated that his son was deeply disappointed with the team's performance last season. 

Chelsea had a rough season in the Premier League last year, finishing in 12th place. 

Graham Potter was fired after spending a lot of money on signing players during the summer transfer window last season. 

Frank Lampard finished the season as caretaker coach but finished in the bottom part of the table. 

 

“It broke his heart the season that we've had just gone. Losing games... it really hurt him”, he added.
