Following the departure of Cesar Azpilicueta, the 24-year-old has been touted to be crowned Chelsea's captain.
Prior to the 2023–24 season, Mauricio Pochettino has not yet chosen his captain.

The Premier League Summer Series victory gave Mauricio Pochettino his first trophy as Chelsea manager. With seven points from three games, the Blues are in first place. They beat Brighton and Fulham and drew with Newcastle United.
Mykhailo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson scored their first goals for the club as Chelsea beat the Seagulls in their season opener, a seven-goal thriller. Eddie Howe's team then defeated the Cottagers to win the Summer Series after holding the Magpies to a 1-1 draw in their first match.

The new English top-flight campaign will now begin with the Blues preparing to face Borussia Dortmund at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, August 3, followed by a match against Liverpool on Sunday, August 13.
