Reece James, a gifted right defender for Chelsea, had an injury scare only days before the team's preseason tour to the United States when he got a preventative scan on his knee.
James' playing time has been significantly reduced in recent seasons due to a number of ailments. He made only 26 Premier League games in the 2021–2022 season, down from 16 the previous year because of a hamstring problem that terminated his season early.
Few players were more frustrated than James after his team's poor 12th-place league finish.
Chelsea acquired Malo Gusto from Lyon in January to increase their right-back options.
Gusto has joined with his new squad for preseason training while still being on loan in France as of this summer.
Gusto is anticipated to cover for James during the next season as Cesar Azpilicueta transitions to Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea's fans are anxiously awaiting Reece James' return to a full fitness as they travel for preseason games. The club will need the right-back's presence and contributions to the game if it is to recover from a difficult season and compete at the top level once again.
