Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury problems have persisted as the striker was taken off in the first half of his comeback game against Aston Villa for Everton.

The England international reportedly only made 15 Premier League appearances last year.

Calvert-Lewin was selected to start against Aston Villa on Sunday after missing the team's loss to Fulham last weekend at home.

The hosts took an early two-goal lead at Villa Park thanks to goals from John McGinn and a penalty kick from Douglas Luiz, but the worst was yet to come for Calvert-Lewin.

Emi Martinez, the goalie for Villa, collided with him barely 10 minutes into the game, sending him to the ground with an instantly swelling face from the contact.

Arnaut Danjuma took over for Calvert-Lewin after only 38 minutes of the first half.

At the conclusion of the 90th minute, Everton went on to lose 4-0 against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
