A passenger's wallet containing US$300 (RM1,406) worth of cash was taken, and the screening officer was shown on camera eating it.

The cop, known as Irency Morados, was shown on surveillance camera footage putting $300 worth of cash into the woman's lips.

She is then seen taking a sip from a water bottle that body scan operator Regino Allen had given her.

Abraham de Luna, her boss, could be seen conversing with her while she covered her mouth with a handkerchief and looked to be choking on the cash.

The event took place on September 8.

The money, according to a report by the Office for Transportation Security (OTS), came from the wallet of a traveler who gave Morados his suitcase before undergoing a full-body scan.

However, the traveler approached people at the screening area after seeing that his wallet was open and had money stolen from it.

Morados then turned aside and started eating the cash "to avoid getting caught," according to the OTS's report.

She was shoving the money into her mouth, but she didn't realize that she had turned towards a surveillance camera.

Because he was spotted contacting Morados to "apparently ensure that the bills are dispatched to preclude any evidence," the OTS said her supervisor was suspected of being involved in the fraud.

Charges against Morados were ordered to be brought by Philippine airport officials.

Jaime Bautista, the minister of transportation, said that he was pursuing the "maximum penalty" against Morados.

The airport in Manila has seen three thefts in high-profile cases since 2023. Airport security staff were caught taking money from a Thai visitor earlier in 2023.

Another screening agent was detained five days later for taking a Chinese passenger's watch.

The OTS instructed its staff to cease wearing coats and have pockets taken out of their uniforms in reaction to these thefts.
