Arsenal vs Tottenham: Mikel Arteta reveals reason behind Declan Rice and Fabio Vieira first half substitution

Mikel Arteta has provided update on Declan Rice injury and Fabio Vieira.

The two players were substituted after half-time during Arsenal vs Tottenham's Premier league match.

The Gunners were held to a 2-2 draw against their fellow London rival on Sunday.

Arsenal took to the lead when Gunners dominated the early exchanges, Cristian Romero headed Saka's shot into his own goal to start a thrilling match.

However, three minutes before halftime, Spurs found a way back in when Son equalized after David Raya made an outstanding save to keep Brennan Johnson out.

Meanwhile, Arteta said that Declan Rice felt a, discomfort in his back in the first half.

On Declan Rice injury, Arteta said: "He had some discomfort in his back, and he was telling us during the first half that he wasn’t comfortable. When we assessed him at half-time, he couldn’t continue, so we had to change him."

After the break, Romero continued to have a bad day as he handled Ben White's goal-bound attempt, allowing Saka to re-establish the Gunners' advantage from the penalty spot.

However, Jorginho, a halftime injury replacement, dallied with the ball before James Maddison snatched it from his hands, giving Spurs an immediate advantage. The midfielder sent the ball to Son, who finished it easily to go past Raya.

Another player who was substituted in the first half was Fabio Vieira. While speaking on the reason behind his decision to sub the midfielder, he said: "Fabio wasn’t injured, that was a tactical decision"
