Lionel Messi helped Argentina secure victory against Ecuador in their World Cup Qualifiers.
In the 2026 World Cup qualifier on Thursday night, Argentina defeated Ecuador 1-0 thanks to a brilliant free-kick from Lionel Messi.
Argentina, the defending world champions, played Ecuador in Buenos Aires, and Messi once again proved to be the difference.
Through a 78th-minute free kick, Messi had the chance to give his nation all three points. Ecuador put up a five-man wall and made sure a sixth guy was lying down behind the wall to block a low shot from the Inter Miami star.
Even so, Messi was able to score by perfectly curving the ball past Hernan Galindez, the opposing goalie, who had no chance of stopping it.
