Cristiano Ronaldo may have just addressed the rivalry between himself and Lionel Messi.
It's been gathered that from the time Ronaldo won his first Ballon d'Or in 2008 until the time Messi won his first in 2009.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi remained at the top of the football food chain for a period of 15 years.
Since then, only two other winners—Luka Modric in 2018 and Karim Benzema in 2022—have taken home the most coveted individual prize in sport.
Both individuals have departed Europe; the 2022 World Cup winner went to Inter Miami in the MLS in July, while the Portuguese moved to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League in January.
The never-ending argument about which of the two is the greatest player of all time may finally come to an end thanks to Ronaldo's remarks during Portugal's news conference, which were broadcast on ESPN.
“If you like Cristiano, you are not obligated to dislike Messi, We've both changed the history of football and are respected,” he said.
“The rivalry between us is over.”
“We shared the stage for 15 years. I'm not saying we're friends, but we respect each other,” he added.
