Nigeria's Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala have set a record in Ballon d’Or

Nigeria have become the first African country to have both men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or nominees in the same year. 

The Nigerian duo of Victor Osimhen and Oshoala were shortlisted in the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.

The Nominees for this year Ballon D'Or was revealed on Wednesday 6th of September 2023. 

It's been gathered that the official winners are expected to be announced on October this year. 

Napoli star Victor Osimhen made the cut following his outstanding season, helping Napoli win the Scudetto and finishing top scorer in the Serie A. 

On the other hand, Asisat Oshoala played a key role in Barcelona Femeni title triumph in the Spanish League last season. 

Despite being disturbed with injuries during the course of the season, the Super Falcons forward still finished top scorer in the campaign.
