Marc Guiu, a 16-year-old replacement for Barcelona, scored on his LaLiga debut late in the second half to earn a 1-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao at home, moving Xavi Hernandez's team up to third. In the first half, Barca had more possession but produced less opportunities than the visitors due to the absence of injured Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Robert Lewandowski. Their finest opportunity came in the 10th minute when Joao Felix struck the crossbar.

After the half, however, Barcelona improved their offensive, and 17-year-old striker Guiu scored in the 80th minute only a few seconds after replacing Fermin Lopez.
Prior to Real Madrid hosting El Clasico the following Saturday, Barca moved up a spot to 24 points, one point behind Real Madrid.
