Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, a well-known Shia Muslim cleric from Nigeria, was awarded an honorary doctorate on Saturday by the University of Tehran.

The Nigerian Shia priest spoke at the occasion and highlighted his desire to maintain a low profile while sharing insights into his five decades of campaigning.

Sheikh Zakzaky recalled the crucial 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, which was headed by the late Imam Khomeini, and said that the move of the late Imam from Paris, France, to Tehran that year had an impact on his choice to instruct Nigerian pupils.

He emphasized the extensive effects of the Islamic Revolution, saying that even those from opposing ideologies, such as communists, were profoundly moved by its transforming character.

Sheikh Zakzaky is presently in Iran with his family, and on Saturday he got the chance to meet with Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the head of the Islamic Revolution.
